After over 2 years outside in the Texas snow/rain/heat I'm calling my trash-can pickup sensor a success! No moisture ingress!
It's an #Insteon door sensor, replacing the magnetic presence sensor with a tilt sensor, hot-glued in a cheap project box. All attached to my cans.
The idea was to notify me when the trash/recycling has been picked up each week, so I know when to bring the cans in.
I'm hoping the #Insteon or #homeassistant fediverse can help me on this.
I have an Insteon USB modem connected to my HA server, and some Mini Remotes. Until recently, the remotes would generate insteon.button_on/off events. Sometime in the past week or so, the events stopped showing up.
Even before that, other Insteon wired devices (e.g., switches) would respond to the remotes, but HA wouldn't see an event from the wired device indicating a state change, unless it was a dimming level state change. I got around that by having automations respond to the insteon.button event and "echo" the action back to the linked device, just so that HA would accurately reflect the state of the linked device.
Now, because I'm not seeing the insteon.button events, I can't even do that. I know there aren't a ton of people with this particular combination of devices, but I hope there's at least a few who have seen this sort of thing and (more importantly) have found a solution.
I have already confirmed that my insteon_devices.json has the correct cat/subcat values for the remotes, and have successfully re-paired the remotes to the hub multiple times. For a while, I could do a re-pair and HA would see the events for a short amount of time. They no longer do at all.
Any ideas?
@derek #Insteon came back from the dead. They're even selling new device models, and they work with #homeassistant

@stripey Insteon, which was dead around this time last year, is back. And it still works. I have a number of their devices, and use them in places where wireless isn't practical.
