  • Wakas is a heavy metal band from Chimbote, Ancash, Peru, formed in 2014 and inspired by the ancestral power of Inca culture and folklore. Their name comes from the Quechua word “Wakas”, which refers to Inca gods, sacred beings believed to hold immense spiritual energy. This concept forms the core of the band’s identity, guiding both their sound and their storytelling.

Since their formation, Wakas has remained active as an independent project, building a catalogue that blends traditional Andean themes with classic heavy metal intensity. Their early releases include the Wakas demo and EP in 2015, followed by Metal de los dioses in 2016 and La supremacía del inca in 2017. The band expanded their presence with the live album El llamado del Uku Pacha in 2022, leading into their full‑length works Atipay Icha Wañuy (2025) and Real final (2026).

Wakas continues to honour Andean heritage through powerful metal compositions that celebrate myth, history, and cultural identity.

Landing in Cusco felt like stepping into a time capsule. The blend of colonial architecture and Inca walls made every street feel sacred. I spent the day walking through San Pedro Market, trying coca tea, and soaking in the energy of the Plaza de Armas. There's something magical about this city—like it knows the secrets of the Andes.

Pisac’s ruins were incredible, but what stuck with me the most was the market. The colors, the people, the smells. I felt like I was walking through a painting.
