Interview: Professor Emeritus (USA)

6–9 minutes

The Nwothm

Professor Emeritus have spent more than a decade shaping their place within Chicago’s heavy and epic doom metal scene, developing a sound rooted in atmosphere, tradition and the collective experience of musicians long active in the city’s wider metal community. With that history in mind, we opened our conversation by asking the band to introduce themselves to readers encountering them for the first time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVcoHpD–5E&list=OLAK5uy_m8LPJ95E7wqENdaItsuZnWJEBposqzjK0

Interview

TheNwothm: To start things off, could you introduce yourselves for anyone discovering Professor Emeritus for the first time and tell us abit about who’s in the band and where you’re all based?

Lee: Hello! We are based in the Chicago area. I’m Lee Smith, and I play guitar and have been in the band since the beginning, around 2010. Tyler Antram plays guitar and Jose Salazar plays bass. They’ve both been in the band since 2017. Chris Avgerin plays drums and has been with us since 2019. Esteban Julian Pena has been our vocalist since 2024.

The Nwothm: Take us back to 2010. What brought the earliest version of Professor Emeritus together in Chicago, and what convinced you that this was the right moment to form a heavy and epic doom metal band?

Lee: The real inspiration behind starting this band was the debut Argus album. I was fascinated with how they fit perfectly in the space between Iron Maiden and Candlemass. That blend of styles allowed their music to feel more exciting to me than most straightforward traditional metal or doom bands. I started writing the music that would become songs like “Burning Grave” and “Rats in the Walls” due to this wave of inspiration.

The Nwothm: Your name has a very distinctive academic weight to it. How did Professor Emeritus become the banner for the project, and what did it represent to you at the time?

Lee: The name definitely seems to be something everyone has questions (and complaints) about. It came from me seeing the “emeritus faculty office” during college. I thought Professor Emeritus sounded like a cool name, and didn’t seem to have been used by any other bands. Some might say there’s a good reason for that! I still like it though.

The Nwothm: Are there particular parts of Chicago’s culture, history or creative scene that you feel have seeped into the band’s identity over the years?

Esteban: Chicago is the best city on Earth, but there’s a heaviness and darkness to it that, subconsciously, I think imbues our music with a sense of despair and resilience.

The Nwothm: Many of you have played in a wide range of Chicago metal bands over the years. How have those experiences influenced the way you write or collaborate within Professor Emeritus?

Esteban: We all have our own styles and preferred ways of doing things, and our experience in the scene allows us to combine our workflows seamlessly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXQgS9ZBSvk&list=OLAK5uy_lO9pHuGA2IrwMPlYH7YfdUzwxNbABoXmM

The Nwothm: Growing up, were there particular books, historical figures or stories that left a mark on you and later found their way into your lyrics or concepts?

Esteban: I’ve always loved studying history and draw a lot of my ideas from historical events, myths, and legends of the past. I’m also a huge fan of cosmic horror and Dungeons & Dragons.

TheNwothm: Outside of music, what are the passions or hobbies that keep you grounded or spark ideas for the band?

Esteban: Traveling and video games.

TheNwothm: Your first full-length,”Take Me to the Gallows”from 2017, arrived after several years of the band quietly building its foundations. Looking back, what was driving the writing of that record, and what did releasing it mean for you at that stage?

Lee: It all goes back to the first Argus album, and wanting to do something with a mix of doom and traditional metal. For the first several years it was really just a solo idea on the back burner. I didn’t expect to ever put a full “real” band together. When we recorded the music in 2014, it was still going to be more of a project than an actual band. It wasn’t until maybe late 2016 or early 2017 when I decided to put a full lineup together. Jose and Tyler remain in the band from that initial lineup.

TheNwothm: Your second album”A Land Long Gone”,released in 2025, arrived eight years after your debut. What ideas, research or inspirations shaped this record, especially given your interest in history and literature?

Esteban: In my case for this album I picked every song as a different painting, or scenes from a movie out of my imagination. For one song I drew inspiration from the novel Gormenghast, though.

TheNwothm: With two albums created across very different periods of your lives, how has the process of writing and recording changed for you as individuals and as a collective?

Lee: The writing process was fairly similar. I had the majority of the music, but for the second album there definitely was some development that took place in the rehearsal room prior to recording. I look forward to more of that moving forward! For recording, the main difference I can think of is that I played most of the guitars and all of the bass on the first album. But on the second, I only played half of the guitars. So there was a lot less pressure on me. After my stuff was done, I could sit back and watch the other guys record their parts.

TheNwothm: Your releases have a strong visual identity. When developing artwork, how do you approach the process?Do you treat it as an extension of the themes, or as its own creative space?

Lee: While the cover artwork for both albums was done by Adam Burke, the circumstances were very different. For the first album, we had the title already and I came up with a pretty literal interpretation. We gave Adam a shoddy sketch and he turned it into the great piece of art that it is. For the second album, there was no title or concept. I happened to be scrolling through Adam’s gallery of paintings available for license, and when one of them jumped off the screen. We immediately grabbed it for ourselves and are still very happy with it. This was before Esteban was in the band. He later came up with the album title, and I think it really fits the artwork.

TheNwothm:I would love to know that if you could travel back in time to any historical period what would it be and why?

Esteban: Traveling around the world in the 1920s seems like it would have been an exciting time to explore.

TheNwothm: And ifyou couldn’t be a musician in that period what do you think you would be?

Esteban: Ideally, a rich noble with no responsibilities, like a Count or Duke.

TheNwothm: What are your plans for touring this year? Are there particular venues, festivals or regions you’re hoping to reach?

Lee: In late June we are doing a little 3 date tour, on our way to and from Maryland Doom Fest’s Knights of Doom festival in Frederick, MD on June 20th. We’re hitting the Pittsburgh, PA area on June 19th and Columbus, OH on June 21st. Those are the only shows we currently have lined up. We’re planning to switch gears after these shows to focus on the next album.

TheNwothm: Thinking back on past shows, is there a moment that stands out as especially meaningful or defining for the band?

Lee: The moment that jumps out at me was when we played with Cardinals Folly in May 2024. It was our first show in 4 years and first with this lineup. It ended up going really well and set the tone for this era of the band.

TheNwothm:Now that”A Land Long Gone”has been out for a year, are you already shaping ideas for the next release, or do you prefer to let an album breathe before moving forward?

Lee: Yes! We have a lot of music written, so we’re trying to fine-tune what we have and see if any other ideas pop up. We will probably focus entirely on new material after the mini-tour in June.

TheNwothm:For musicians who admire your work and want to carve outt heir own path in heavy or epic doom metal, what advice would you offer them?

Lee: Just play what you like and what you want to hear!

TheNwothm:How can our readers buy your music, merch andfollow you online?

Lee: For folks in the US, our Bandcamp (professoremeritus.bandcamp.com/) is the best place. We’ve got CDs, shirts, and digital downloads available there, and patches will be arriving soon. Those in Europe can get CD versions of the 2 albums from No Remorse (noremorse.gr/) and many other online shops. You can follow us on Facebook (facebook.com/ProfessorEmeritusLives/) or Instagram (instagram.com/professor_emeritus_metal/).

TheNwothm:Anything else you would like to mention?

Lee: Thank you for taking the time to chat with us, and thanks for all the thoughtful questions!

Interview: Savage Sword (Sweden)

5–7 minutes

The Nwothm

Savage Sword have been active since 2022, steadily shaping their heavy metal identity from their base in Kristianstad. This interview looks at the band’s path so far, their influences and the foundations behind what they do.

Interview: Savage Sword (Sweden)

TheNwothm: To start us off, could you introduce Savage Sword, tell us who is in the band, and share a little about life in Kristianstad for anyone who has never been there?

S.S: Savage Sword is a band formed in 2022, the members consists of Henrik (Guitar and Lead vocals) Rasmus (Guitar and backup vocals) Jakob (Bass and backup vocals) Joel (Drums)

Kristianstad is a quiet town in the southern part of Sweden. There is really not much to say about it. Life goes on in a calm fashion.

TheNwothm: How did the four of your first cross paths and realise this was the line‑up worth building on?

S.S: Savage Sword was formed in summer 2022 among friends who decided to create a heavy metal project. Later on in 2023 Joel and Herik met Jakob at a mutual friends party, after a few beers had kicked in Jakob was invited to try out the bass for the band. The final fourth piece was set. Savage Sword was formed.

TheNwothm: Your name carries a clear sense of steel, grit and fantasy. What drew you to Savage Sword as the banner for your music, and what did you want it to signal from day one?

S.S: Rasmus’ friend from Canada had alot of ideas and projects going on. He mentioned “Savage Sword”. Rasmus asked kindly to use this name for the band and we were free to use it. We thought Savage Sword would be a cool name. We are all into fantasy and lore and heavy metal so we thought it would be a good mix. We want to deliver something that gives a sense of heaviness and power.

TheNwothm: Kristianstad and the wider Skåne region have their own character and pace. How has your local environment shaped the way you write, rehearse or think about heavy and power metal?

S.S: The region itself has not really shaped the way we write. We pick up ideas from other things we like. Examples are books, movies and music. Our rehearsal studio is on the outskirts of town and the area is a quiet place where you can be loud and experiment without any problems.

TheNwothm: Sweden has a long history with metal, but each city has its own flavour. What parts of your local culture or scene feel most present in your sound or attitude?

S.S: There is no heavy metal scene in Kristianstad, our sound is colored by our biggest influences, like Omen, Running Wild, Heavy Load and Iron Maiden etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSfYO17GV0s

TheNwothm: Your first release was the single “Crimson Fields” in 2025. Looking back at that track now, what does it capture about the band’s earliest spark?

S.S: The label thought it would be a good idea to release Crimson Fields as a single for the upcoming demo. We in the band agreed to this and we are grateful for the good response we received. It was indeed one of the early songs together with Power by the blade. Both shaped the way we want to sound.

TheNwothm: You followed it with “Demo MMXXVI” in January 2026. What pushed you to create a full demo so soon after the single, and what did you want listeners to understand about you through that release?

S.S: The songs were ready. We hope to deliver something that gives the listeners a sense of power and that is in the right spirit of heavy power metal.

TheNwothm: Your lyrics and themes draw from sword and sorcery. What first pulled you toward that world, and how do you keep it feeling personal rather than just a reference point?

S.S: We are all interested in books, movies, fantasy and lore. As a lot of bands already have done this before, we think there is no limit to creating something heavy together with fantasy, swords and sorcery has no limit when it comes to exploring those kinds of worlds. It is of course a point of reference, but where we add our own personal flavor all through the process of writing the songs.

TheNwothm: On a more personal note, what parts of your own lives or backgrounds feed into the energy of the band, whether that is discipline, escapism, storytelling or something else entirely?

S.S: We all have a common goal and vision with this project and we rehearse every week and we are generally very serious about the live performances. We feel that we can use both our differences and similarities in the songwriting. We are all quite calm and down to earth kind of guys.

TheNwothm: Every band has its own internal chemistry. What do you think binds the four of you together beyond the music itself?

S.S: The biggest part about our band is that we’re all very good friends outside of writing and playing music as well, we hang out often and go to gigs and festivals together, we’ve been friends for years before even starting the band.

TheNwothm: Are you currently writing or recording new material, or exploring ideas for what the next chapter of Savage Sword might sound like?

S.S: We’re recording our upcoming full length record right now. If you liked the Demo, we think you will enjoy the full length as well!

TheNwothm: You are still early in your journey, which makes live shows even more important. What have your gigs been like so far, and what kind of atmosphere do you aim to create on stage?

S.S: Visually we’re not aiming for anything special than providing our music in a rehearsed manner. We try to have the same energy as our songs give. The live shows has been great so far!

TheNwothm: Looking ahead, are there particular cities, festivals or countries you hope to bring Savage Sword to once touring becomes a bigger part of your plans?

S.S: One of our goals is to play Keep it True in Germany, a great festival with amazing bands. But a European tour is one of our goals right now.

TheNwothm: Sweden continues to produce new heavy and power metal bands. What do you make of the newer wave coming through, and do you feel part of a rising movement or something more solitary?

S.S: We love it, so many talented and great new bands in this new wave of heavy metal, honestly the torch the bands carried in the 80’s has been handed over perfectly with the new bands.

TheNwothm: How can our readers buy your music and merch?

S.S: You can order our demo cassette on Dying Victims’ website, we’ve printed shirts ourselves as well, we’ve only sold them at gigs thus far, we do plan to sell them online in a close future as well.

TheNwothm: Where can fans follow you online?

S.S: @savagesword.band on Instagram and Facebook.

Review: Iron Kobra “Eternal Dagger”

Release date: 19th June 2026

Label: Dying Victims Productions

5–7 minutes

Gage J. Tolin

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present IRON KOBRA’s highly anticipated third album, Eternal Dagger, on CD, MC and vinyl LP formats. Additionally their two previous albums will be re-released at the same time.

Formed in 2008, Germany’s IRON KOBRA began with a noble mission: to bring heavy metal back to its unpolished, rough, and weird roots. Influenced by heroes of old like Iron Maiden, Cirith Ungol, Living Death, Manowar, and Tank with a sprinkle of punk, the band brewed up a venomous concoction of catchy-yet-speedy heavy metal with maximum potential for engagement – whether it was singing along to, banging your head, and / or raising your fist! Their first few years were busy, releasing the Cult of the Snake demo in 2009 and the Battlesword EP the year after.

After playing extensively all throughout Europe and earning a reputation for being a force to be reckoned with live, IRON KOBRA teamed up with DYING VICTIMS in 2012 for the release of their momentous debut album, Dungeon Masters, and three years later for their more refined second album, Might & Magic. The years after – especially those around the pandemic – brought the band’s external momentum to a crawl. But behind the scenes, they were still writing and playing select shows, even venturing as far as Japan.

Now, at very long last, IRON KOBRA return to stake their claim as kings of swords & sorcery metal with Eternal Dagger! Granted, the characteristically amazing cover artwork suggests a sci-fi bent, but the timeless HEAVY METAL the Germans unleash here is vintage IRON KOBRA: immediately recognizable as them, but still reflecting on (and refining) their past, incorporating influences from their favorite bands to result in something that will be YOUR favorite soon enough!

Aided by the gleaming & glorious production of Stefan Castevet (Vulture, Luzifer), Eternal Dagger explodes with excitement at every turn, its nine songs ranging speed metal tracks like “Trembling Dungeons” to NWOBHM-fueled rockers like “Shibuya Nights” and epics like “Mountains of Madness.” It goes without saying that IRON KOBRA’s arsenal here offers a wide variety of pure metal gold, evoking the likes of Exciter, Brocas Helm, Diamond Head, and early Running Wild but, of course, with their undeniable personality and panache.

So strap yourselves to your seats, maniacs: the Cult of the Snake is back, bringing you heavy hymns that will pierce your eardrums like a heavy metal drill

Line-up:
Matze – Bass
Björn- Drums
Ela – Guitars, Vocals
Steffen – Guitars

Review

“Trembling Dungeons” was balls to the wall speed metal goodness from the get-go, with a production that amplified every crash of the drums and the sizzling riffing at play. Thanks to the backing vocals for the chorus, this is the kind of song that is perfect for a crowd setting. A quick little thrasher that seems shorter than it actually is and definitely doesn’t overstay its welcome, it’s a recipe for a perfect album opener.

“Forbidden Fruits” had some killer drums to kick it off, and really all throughout the track. Less frenetic and more melodic than the opener, but no less speedy, this one was largely soldiered forward by the incredible drumming (and some really nice basslines beneath it all. I did find the vocal delivery a touch odd, but in ways I’m not quite sure how, but I know something was up with it. Still, this was a more than solid romp.

“Fliehen” had a very bass/drum forward approach to the production, with the vocals taking a slight bit of a backseat. I’m also going to assume that they’re in German, or a mixture of German and English, it’s hard to tell exactly due to how fast Ela is delivering. That said, this is incredibly hectic in all the best ways.

“Shibuya Nights” was much more subdued than the prior track, featuring a more mid-tempo and more melodic vocals. This one reminded me a bit of that brief era of “proto power metal” in the early 80s, talking pre-Walls of Jericho. With all that in mind, this one wasn’t quite connecting with me, despite the admittedly catchy chorus and the solid, if simple, riffing.

“Silver Strings and Iron Wings” opened with a pretty stellar riff, simple but effective. This was a more than solid track for the bulk of its runtime, but around 2/3 of the way through it is when things kicked it up a notch. A killer mosher of a riff, followed by a frankly stunning little solo, and the band eventually adding in some ‘oh-oh-ohs’ and some sizzling basslines for a little something extra.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-XtCXpEQk0&pp=ygUKSXJvbiBLb2JyYQ%3D%3D

“Eternal Dagger” opened with a riff that instantly took me to Kill em All-era Metallica, and that’s always a good thing. This one was chock full of some incredible riffing, really stellar, almost soulful drumming, and probably my best vocal performance on the entire album thus far. Seriously, there is a monstrously evil riff at around 1:45 that was near legendary.

“Unchained & Untamed” had some insane drumming to kick things off, Björn was all over his kit. This another on the more frenzied approach to speed metal, like some earlier Exciter and maybe Hellion too. A more contemporary act that this one reminded me was that of Stälker from New Zealand, albeit not quite as balls to the wall. Another great track.

Ooh “Treacherous Tyrant” had a disgusting intro, in a good way. Loved that bend to kick things off, always great stuff. The delivery of the chorus was some seriously tight stuff, with some great riffing to back it up. As is customary for speed metal, the drumming is simply insane and Björn’s calves must be huge. I really enjoyed this one, super catchy and addictive.

“Mountains of Madness” was the longest of the album, at just a shade over 5 minutes, and also opened with possibly the heaviest section of the entire album. Instant headbanging riff right from the get-go! The riffs simply did not stop coming in this one, it was banger after banger. Huge fan of Ela’s vocals on this one as well, and the little bridge section near the 2:30 mark. Great way to close out the record, what an epic closer.

Conclusion

Much has changed in the trad and speed metal scenes, and in the world, since Iron Kobra’s last full-length back in 2015 (I was in high school), but they have showed no signs of rust or weariness. In fact, in their time away from the studio, it seems that the band has only further ironed their brand of speed metal to new heights. While I’m not sure if Eternal Dagger is “better” than their earlier work, as it’s been some time since I revisited those releases, I can say with certainty that it is a damn good speed metal album, and one that is worthy of picking up. It’s also worthy of recognition in my CD archive, and I can’t wait to spin it again.

TheNwothm Score: 8.5/10

    Interview: Avian (Germany)

    8–12 minutes

    The Nwothm

Avian have carved out their own corner of southern Germany’s metal scene, steadily refining their sound while pushing themselves into new creative territory. What follows is a look at the band as they stand today, shaped by years of growth, shifting line‑ups and a clear sense of purpose, but still hungry for what comes next.

    Interview

TheNwothm: To start things off, could you introduce the members of Avian and share where you are all from?

    Christian Langhorst (Guitar): Friedrichshafen, Germany

    Johannes Peter (Guitar): Baienfurt, Germany

    Christian Kaiser (Drums): Wangen, Germany

Can Sahin (Bass, Vocals): Uhldingen, Germany

TheNwothm: You began in Ostrach and Burgweiler before later settling in Ravensburg. How did those places shape your early years as musicians?

A: Both founding members knew each other through their guitar teacher. In my opinion, building a band was the next step at that age. But since there is no longer an “original” member of Avian in the band, we don’t want to shed too much light on this founding phase of the band

TheNwothm: Germany has a strong metal tradition. Has the culture or local scene influenced the way you write or perform

A: Each of our band member is a strong concert/festival goer and so everyone is influenced heavily from the different venues they’re going to. Especially the metal genre is strong were we all grew up, although it’s since the 2010s way more Metalcore than the traditional Heavy Metal. Anyway even the small differences in taste about the music genre allows us to implement different styles and patterns into our songs.

From a musical point of view this variety is very prosperous. On the other hand the stage performances especially from smaller venues allows you to decide what you want to do on stage, what you think is cool and on the other hand what you don’t want to do. So yes, the metal culture has had and still has much influence on how we write or perform smaller and bigger venues each to their part.

TheNwothm: Outside of music, what personal interests or experiences feed into your songwriting or stage presence?

A: Many of our song lyrics come from books, films and/or personal views on various topics. The best example of this is our new single “Expired”, which closes with the situation in which the world as a whole currently finds itself and there is no improvement in sight. I (Christian Langhorst) myself like to read history books from different eras (Middle Ages, Viking Age, First World War, Second World War, Cold War, etc.) and get many ideas from them.

The stage presence (how we dress and what accessories we have on stage) is partly inspired by the great players of the game from the 80s/90s, without any kind of disguise, as is currently seen in many venues by different bands and increasingly. We try to keep it mostly plain black and show our band symbols on stage, but we think the focus should be on our music and convey the fun we have playing through good interaction within the band on stage and with our audience.

TheNwothm: When you look at the current wave of new heavy metal bands, what stands out to you about the direction the genre is taking

A: The production quality is getting higher and higher. And you can also feel a return of traditional heavy metal in terms of stage presence, playing style and song structure. Some drive it over the cliff by sounding too sterile or too perfect, if I’m honest, but I guess that comes with the tools and methods now accessible where you can get completely lost in the details. But also the technical versatility increases a lot, and the compositions become more complex and with more layers, which is pretty good, and we ourselves try (keyword “try” :-D) not to keep our compositions too simple in terms of song structure. But this is a learning process, as you may have heard when you compare our older songs with newer ones.

Since the first two eras pre‑date everyone in the current formation, the band’s active story for you really begins in 2017. With that in mind, what did the 2019 single “Decision of the Apocalypse” represent as the first release created entirely by the line‑up that exists today?

A: That was the first record after the “original” setup and was more or less a way to find our way of making music and to adapt input and preferences from each “new” member. At that time we were trying out many technical setups and were still not so sure in which specific direction/genre of music we’re heading. With the following member changes that way was became clearer each time until we’re here with our ideal member situation.

TheNwothm: Your self-titled EP “Avian” also arrived in 2019. What were you aiming to capture with that release?

A: At that time we were writing songs pretty fast and wanted to put out some sort of a life signal with that EP and establish something were you can also put out there in order to apply for concerts and venues. Most of them songs were written by our other guitar player (Mario Düssel) and therefore reflect that phase of writing style and song structure.

TheNwothm: You released “Ready Player One” in 2020 and later returned with “Stormwarning”, which began as a single before becoming a full album. What inspired those releases, and how did the singles help shape the album’s direction?

A: Two completely different songs which is mainly owed to the fact that is was written from two different persons. Ready Player One was written (music and lyrics) by our fromer singer Armin who was heavily influenced by the digital world (also through the respective movies such as TRON) and the idea of losing yourself to a digital image of yourself or at least how you want yourself to be seen and in the meanwhile totally neglect the real world out. No matter what the real cause for that escape really is.

The song Stormwarning was written (music and lyrics) by myself (Christian Langhorst) and has its main idea from a book that I’ve read some years ago. The book is called (surprise) “Storm Warning” by history fiction author Jack Higgins and has its historical background in the last months of WWII where the allies and especially the Russians are closing the circle around Nazi-Germany.

A group of, in Argentina stranded, Kriegsmarine personel fear about their respective family/partner/children and try to make the big passage over the Atlantic on an old three mast schooner. On their journey the experience several horrific situations and in the end, a very typical story line in books from Jack Higgins, there is no heroical end full of glory instead hard, sober reality.

After that I wrote several other songs with a similar background that were put on that album. But since the image of that big, old ship in the middle of a storm and strafed by our mascot, the grief, was loved by every member we put it on the album cover and named the album after it.

TheNwothm: Your most recent singles “Black Trade” and “On The Run” came out in 2025. How do these tracks reflect where Avian is heading?

A: As I’ve mentioned before we constantly are trying to improve ourselves especially in terms of song structure and playing “together” to accentuate the ideas that we have for certain passages. From an objective point of view you notice more twin guitar parts a bridging part that smoothly leads to a accelerating guitar solo and of course an alternation in the end to keep the crowd and ourselves excited 😊 especially the part of staying excited and add parts to the song that aren’t following a strict scheme are on our focus more and more. And furthermore the production evolved heavily. After hard learned lessons I think we found “our” way of recording, mixing, producing etc. which makes a big difference and allows you to establish your trademark sound.

TheNwothm: Your new single “Expired?” has just landed. What can you share about the track, and does it signal that more new music is on the horizon?

A: From our point of view this song is a continuation of our songwriting. At first there’s always a 70% version of the song with an initial structure but then ideas from every direction are flowing into it and we’re trying many different settings. But in the end, if everyone of us is happy with the arrangement and agrees to leave the song at it’s current setting we start recording. To answer your question if one can expect more songs like “Expired” I would definitely say “yes” in terms of production quality, AVIAN trademarks such as twin guitar leads, solo maybe also some slower parts.

TheNwothm: What have your recent live shows been like, and are there any moments from the stage that have stayed with you?

A: Great interaction with the fans and some turbulences on the stage. The greatest moments which we’ve experienced very often, especially when you’re the support slot or the only band that’s not fitting the main genre of the evening, is when fans come up to us after the show and tell us that the initially weren’t fans of Traditional Heavy Metal but our show got their attention and they could feel our passion and joy in it. That’s more or less the greatest compliment that you can receive when I think about it.

On the other hand I guess the typical band experiences that happen only on stage like broken strings just seconds before a solo, broken guitar strap and a hectic change of guitars and so on and on are some key memories. But in the end those experiences only let you stay calm in such moments in the future and you learn from every mistake. That’s for sure.

TheNwothm: What touring plans do you have for the rest of 2026?

A: Play more shows in the closer area and maybe slip as a replacement in some festivals in summer. But main focus is in the end of this year and the festival season 2027.
