Role models are needed, especially for Deaf children born into hearing families, to prevent identity crises from happening. Statistics show that if a child is Deaf, only in around 10% of cases both parents are also Deaf.
It is preferred to say Deaf over hearing impaired. Also, always capitalise the D in Deaf and never use the word “deaf-mute“. Many people can speak it, and they also have a language — sign language!
Cecilia Göbl and Johanna Steiner got me excited to start learning #SignLanguage with the Lingvano app. 🤓
In their 2-hour interactive session at the #IKTForum, they told us about the history of sign language and that there are more than 300 different sign languages, not counting dialects.
With #Lingvano, you can currently learn ASL (American Sign Language), BSL (British Sign Language) and ÖGS (Austrian Sign Language). 🚀
Scientific research is often conducted about, but not with, people with disabilities. Their perspective is underrepresented in research findings.

Dr. Andreas Lederer is opening the #IKTForum with a talk about #GenerativeAI, what it can do and what it can’t.
I found it especially interesting that he mentioned research projects looking at text to #SignLanguage solutions. I wonder how well this is going to work. The future will tell.
