冬場は行くための道も悪く、行っても寒くてやれることもないから行くチャンスもほぼないフンザの冬。

そんな観光客も薄いであろう冬のフンザで毎年12/21にはこんな巨大人形を焼く祭りが行われてるんだって。おもしろーい。

どんな祭りなの？と尋ねると、非常に面白い土地の伝説を教えてくれた。

昔フンザに現れたShirimadadという名の巨人？が現れ、当初は山羊を食べて暮らしてたけど、老婆の呪いで人の子を食べるようになってしまい、その巨人の娘（！）と村人が共に画策して巨人を焼き殺したそうな。

で、以降、毎年12/21に巨人を模した人形を焼き続けないと、巨人は復活すると言われてるんだって！

Amidst the tension in the Pakistani and Indian Kashmir region, I wondered if I should post more picture perfect photos of Northern Pakistan. At the same time, I think this IS the right time. The people of Hunza are kind, the nature is stunning, and tourism is an important income.

Another favourite image from my 30+ year photographic career. Moving on to overseas landscape, this is Rakaposhi (7788m) from Hunza, Pakistan. It has the longest uninterrupted rise on Earth (at least on land): 6000 metres from base to summit.
