I suspect that one of the things that makes Mastodon feel like an echo of the Internet I remember before Facebook is that everyone I see on here is a human being. No brands, no bots, no machine-generated ”content” clogging up the pipes. I’m sure all of those things are coming with popularity, but I have some hope that running my own instance gives me a chance to keep that noise under control.
