A very young Freiderich Engels was once taken to see the composer Johann Hummel.

They talked long into the night about music and politics and the changes Hummel had seen in Europe during his lifetime.

Finally, Engels offered to make Hummel a hot ale. Beer, spices and sugar, and then a hot poker plunged in to heat it.

But, embarrassingly, Engels had the poker too hurt and the sugar burn, making it undrinkable.

In the 1960s popular singer named himself after this incident.
