l managed to get 5 days camping on St Kilda in 2015. It's an impressive spot, logistically hard to get to because the sailings are often stopped by weather. This shot of Boraraigh and the smaller Stac Lee and Stac an Armin kind of sums up the isolation of place.
The main island, Hirta is where visitors normally spend their time. Everything is on a slope, the only flat bits are the floors of the old houses. #StKilda #Hirta #Boreray #Boraraigh #Scotland #Hebrides #Landscape #Seascape#Photography

St Kilda was evacuated OTD in 1930 and the men, women and children who lived on the island archipelago left their homes behind for the last time. It’s still one of Scotland’s most haunting places and a dual UNESCO world heritage site! #StKilda #WesternIsles #UNESCO #Scotland #Hirta #Boreray https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/past-times/2356496/silence-surrounds-mystical-st-kilda-90-years-after-mass-evacuation-of-residents/
Silence surrounds mystical St Kilda 90 years after mass evacuation of residents

The silence is the first thing that strikes you about St Kilda: the stillness around the dilapidated old buildings which once housed a thriving island

Boraraigh in the St Kildan archipelago, with Stac Lee to the left and Stac an Armin behind it. 8 years since I camped there, a magical place.

Back in September we went to St. Kilda. Very much a bucket list thing for me.
When there we found out Landward were filming and here is the programme.
A truly spectacular place.

Read all about the evacuation of St Kilda in Polaris, my fourth poetry collection, shortlisted for a Saltire Literary Award. This poetical, post-colonial re-telling of the history of these islands, includes original poetry in Gaelic and English, as well as many of the native and community languages of these nations.

Morning Mastodon. Now that I've got last night's Who out the way (having fallen asleep before I posted) let us move to something all the prettier.
We were very lucky to get a day out to St. Kilda this year. While there we met a guy who climbed right to the top and he sent us this picture of that view. I thought what I'd seen was stunning, but if I ever go back, I'm going right up.
