A follow-on from my post yesterday on Mingulay, here are some of the literally awesome climbing bits. It is very scary setting off on a 100 metre abseil down a sea cliff, hoping the rope is at the correct bit and won't just leave you dangling in the air above the waves. In the crop you can see the abseil ropes, and quite a few teams climbing. #Climbing #Seacliff #Mingulay #Hebrides #Scotland
Mingulay bay and ruined village, a beautiful spot. I had a week camping on this island, which has no services at all - no electricity, phones, toilets (hole in the ground). Water from the stream, which doubles as a fridge. A small fishing-boat gets you there and back. Wildlife abounds and the few people there are temporary, a couple of NT wardens and climbers (it has some of the best sea cliff climbing in the UK). #Mingulay #Scotland #Hebrides #Landscape #Beach #Ruin
If there's one thing I will never forget it's Scottish West Coast sunsets, looking over to western isles. #Landscape #Scotland #Skye #Hebrides #Sunset #Photography

“An entire system of comharran – Gaelic navigational marks – surrounds the islands… A wealth of knowledge about the creatures which populate these fishing grounds is also encoded within the Gaelic language.”

How Scottish Gaelic is helping protect Scotland’s seas

Around 75% of fishermen in the Outer Hebrides speak Gaelic. Their daily use of the language at work helps keep it alive.
