The boggy heathland looks a bit desolate initially but there are a few floral gems in there if you take the time to look closely as you clamber up ( or down).

This is the first time I’ve tracked down a Heath Spotted Orchid and I took this route in the hope I would do that so this was definitely a win.

Unfortunately I rather stupidly forgot to bring my real camera so I had to make do with my phone for these shots.

This is a moderate hike apparently.

Being 60 and moderately out of practice it was quite a challenge hauling myself up the side of the Comeraghs from the Nire valley on the Sgillogues walk but I have to say it was worth it.

Climbing Ben Vrackie from Pitlochry

Recently I took the train to Pitlochry and hiked up Ben Vrackie. The climb to the base of the peak is pretty easy going, but the hike up the summit itself is very steep, at least half an hour of rock steps. The view at the top is great, so here are some photos for you to enjoy.

Oddly for someone who #reads and #writes nigh on incessantly I can’t seem to bear the absence of music. I don’t listen to music when I #mountainbike or #hillwalk, though I appreciate my walking partner’s chat. Without-music isn’t necessarily a silent state. I’d hoped electronic works (from #Arneheim to #Ircam) might help. Now they’ve become ends in themselves! And this is really what it all comes down to. Reading and writing (though perhaps not equivalent) are (very often) ends in themselves.

A shorter walk today up to Moel Tryfan. Took the Olympus PEN for some proper photos and managed to burn through half a roll. I forget how great of a camera it is.
