Si chiamava Jean Kylian Essombe il bambino di 7 anni che è morto dopo che un gonfiabile è stato improvvisamente sollevato da una violenta raffica di vento. Siamo a Hamme, nelle Fiandre e il bimbo si trovava al centro sportivo cittadino assieme alla sua squadra, la SK Wambeek-Ternat Under 8. Secondo la stampa locale, il 7enne stava seguendo il fratello minore che sabato 9 maggio stava partecipando a un evento.
Poco dopo le 14, il castello gonfiabile sul quale stavano giocando diversi bambini è stato trascinato via dal vento. Nella caduta il piccolo ha riportato ferite gravissime dopo l’impatto contro una recinzione. Trasportato d’urgenza all’ospedale universitario di Gand, è morto poche ore più tardi. Altri tre bambini sono rimasti feriti in modo lieve e sono stati ricoverati per accertamenti.
La procura belga ha aperto un’indagine per verificare se la struttura fosse stata ancorata correttamente e se fossero state rispettate tutte le norme di sicurezza previste per eventi all’aperto. Secondo le prime ricostruzioni, il gonfiabile sarebbe stato sollevato da una raffica improvvisa particolarmente violenta. “È stato un tragico incidente. Da quello che sappiamo, il gonfiabile avrebbe colpito un palo dopo essere stato spinto dal vento, ma le verifiche sono ancora in corso”, ha dichiarato ai media belgi Jos Donvil, presidente della SK Wambeek-Ternat. La notizia ha sconvolto l’intera comunità sportiva locale. Il torneo è stato immediatamente sospeso e i club coinvolti hanno pubblicato messaggi di cordoglio sui social.

Inflatable castle blown away by the wind, a 7-year-old boy died. An investigation has been opened.
The boy was named Jean Kylian Essombe, a 7-year-old who died after an inflatable was suddenly lifted by a violent gust of wind. The incident occurred in Hamme, in the Flanders region, and the boy was with his team, the SK Wambeek-Ternat Under 8, at the town’s sports center. According to local media, the 7-year-old was watching his younger brother who was participating in an event on Saturday, May 9th.
Shortly after 2 p.m., the inflatable castle, on which several children were playing, was swept away by the wind. In the fall, the boy suffered serious injuries after impact with a fence. He was urgently transported to the University Hospital of Ghent, where he died a few hours later. Three other children were slightly injured and admitted for checks.
The Belgian prosecutor's office opened an investigation to determine if the structure was properly anchored and if all safety regulations for outdoor events were followed. According to initial reconstructions, the inflatable was lifted by a sudden, particularly violent gust of wind. “It was a tragic accident. As far as we know, the inflatable would have hit a pole after being pushed by the wind, but investigations are still ongoing,” said Jos Donvil, president of the SK Wambeek-Ternat, to Belgian media. The news shocked the entire local sports community. The tournament was immediately suspended and the involved clubs published messages of condolence on social media.
