Sorry for the totally unrelated comment, but the anecdote about Spanish and "sky scratchers" (as opposed to English "sky scrapers") sums up everything I've struggled to explain to people about how challenging it is to translate things from one language to another.

Many words that we take for granted in English are colloquialisms. You must often find equivalent colloquialisms for them in other languages.

I recently worked on 2 small (in scope) translation projects and ran into these issues again and again.
