The Jordanhill Cross, one of the @GovanStones in Govan Old Parish Church in Glasgow. It's the lower section of a celtic-style cross and is decorated with a figure on horseback and geometric knotwork designs. It's thought to have been carved in the 900s or 1000s, when Govan was an important ecclesiastical centre within the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde.

Last week's archaeological dig by the University of Glasgow Archaeology Field School and Clyde Archaeology in the graveyard of Govan Old Parish Church in Glasgow. I'd never realised quite how many flat gravestones there were just below the surface, with some dating back as far as the 1500s.

Hogback stones in Govan Old Parish Church. Dating from the era of the Vikings more than 1,000 years ago, they're thought to have served as grave markers. They are unique to the Viking areas of northern Britain and the Govan Hogbacks are the largest known examples. They are now part of the collection of early Christian-Viking relics known as the Govan Stones.

An archaeological excavation in the churchyard at Govan Old Parish Church in Glasgow, a port city on the River Clyde in Scotland's western lowlands, has uncovered a "remarkable" early medieval 'Govan Warrior' stone.
Celtic-style cross just outside the churchyard of Govan Old Parish Church. It's unclear how old this cross is, but it is covered in intricate Celtic-style knotwork. Given the fact that many of the original Celtic marker stones from this churchyard are now housed in a museum inside the church, this is most likely a more recent example in an ancient style.
