Did distribution maintainers give up because they're rightly adhering to copyright on some devices? Or, is the right-to-repair and #FOSS being horribly impacted? Are they supposed to play ball and hack copyright software providers at the same time?
Using essential software is going to keep more devices out of landfill. It gets Linux into more places.
