Short answer: no. The eruption is part of long term rifting and eruption process, and the magma is coming from much deeper.

The Icelandic Met Office page on the Reykjanes eruptions has lots of detail.

@RagnarHeidar works there and is a good follow for #Iceland #volcanoes on #geomastodon.

Question for #GeoMastodon: could the Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP-2) flow test in Reykjanes in December 2019 have triggered earthquakes from January 2020 in Svartsengi preceding the 2021 Fagradalsfjall eruption?

Hi #geomastodon currently holidaying on Kangaroo Island and have seen rocks that look like they've had worms go through them. Fires anyone know what causes this effect? #geology
@kwh Hi Ken. Happy to see you. Have a look to this toot and unfold the thread. https://mastodon.social/@allochthonous/109328830892142887
Good idea to use #geomastodon
Is there a #geotwitter equivalent here? For example, is it #geomastodon I wonder?
This migration over to Mastodon is really giving me a good idea of who is still active in geo “microblogging”. What’s the new hashtag for #Geo [Platform] - #GeoVerse #GeoMastodon #GeoPeeps ?
Maybe we can use #GeoMastodon to develop #MinCup voting strategies mwahahaha
