OkCupid Customer services, after I told them "I will not provide ID as I don't have to, though I'm willing to give info to prove I am indeed the owner of the account"
Their response (selected part, unedited:
To explain our approach, we request ID to help us verify that you are the owner of the account whose data you would like to access.
This verification process is consistent with privacy laws, including CCPA, UK GDPR, and ICO guidance <https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/ uk-gdpr-guidance-and-resources/subject-access-requests/a-guide-to- subject-access/#ID> that require us to verify that the person making a request for data is the person whose data is requested. We understand that the verification process can be frustrating, but it is necessary to help protect the privacy and security of our members' information and is done in accordance with applicable law. As I'm sure you can appreciate, an OkCupid account may contain sensitive data, and we must take steps to ensure that we do not provide access to an unauthorized third party who has access to your email account.
Alternatively, if you do not wish to provide us your ID, you can provide us the following information related to the account:
- Account creation date,
- Username,
- Date of birth,
- City,
- Date of last login to the account.
Basically, they "justify" them asking for an ID, as if they are about to insist on it. And then provide for an alternative route.
Hyprocrites. 🎼 Not surprising. Still frustrating (to read in the tune of "forgiven not forgotten" by The Corrs).
