"Talley and Lohse both express the hope that the story of Gault and what the Collinses have shouldered to preserve it will inspire others to think carefully about how to steward their lands before irreplaceable history is lost. After cataloging just 3 percent of the Gault site, yielding 2.6 million artifacts, the excavators filled in that meters-deep hole to save the remainder for future generations with better technologies with which to conduct their science.
