A quick shout out to a genuinely fantastic #Cardiff #Caerdydd institution: Cardiff Cycle Workshop, based near Big Tesco in #Gabalfa.

Popped in there just now to collect a new-second-hand bike. My fifth (might be sixth) from there in c20 years. Affordable bikes, great service, friendly people. Love it. 🚲

🚨 ADVERT APPLICATION ALERT! 🚨 Plans have been submitted for a massive new ad screen on North Road, next to the Maindy leisure centre. Details below. Lodge an objection ASAP! www.cardiffidoxcloud.wales/publicaccess... #AdvertisingShitsInYourHead #Cardiff #Caerdydd #Cathays #Gabalfa

A nice use of space that would otherwise be used to advertise shit we don’t need - instead, it has been repurposed to provide an altogether more wholesome message.

More happily though, how about this for the sky which greeted me this morning in #Gabalfa, #Cardiff / #Caerdydd. #NoFilter
@Beedazzled I love round the corner from one of the parks where they’re planting these. Can’t wait to start scrumping them! #Gabalfa 🍏

This is interesting. The suburb of #Cardiff / #Caerdydd in which I live (a place called #Gabalfa) apparently had a type of apple (β€œthe Gabalfva apple”) named after it at the turn of the last century. The species is to be reintroduced, with trees being planted in the park round the corner. How very lovely and wholesome. 🍎 🍏

Rare 'Gabalva' apples will be reintroduced to North Cardiff

A rare species of apple that once grew in the grounds of the Bute family estate in Cardiff is to be reintroduced to the city for what is thought to be the first time in around 100 years.Fifty Gabalfa apple trees, recorded historically as β€˜Gabalva' apples, will be planted in Gabalfa Park and Maitland Park, as part of the Bute Park Community Orchard, and on school grounds, as part of Cardiff Council's β€˜Coed Caerdydd β€˜urban forest project. The last record of Gabalva apples in Cardiff's green spaces

This is nice. I saw the unlikely graffiti tag β€œBernard” in my local park, but on closer inspection a clearly talented graffiti artist has used some wallspace to wish his grandfather a happy 100th birthday. How terribly wholesome.

I support all the moves to encourage people towards active travel in #Cardiff, I really do, but I still think that it should be possible to drive from Penarth Road to #Gabalfa in less than an hour at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
