Mathieu GottelandThe immediate consequence has been to reignite tensions in and around El Fasher (North #Darfur), the last major city out of #RSF control throughout the region, which was held by a Darfur Joint Protection Force (#DJPF) of neutral rebels up to the alliance of #SLM-MM, #JEM and #GSLEF to the #SAF.
That last victory gave the impetus the #SAF needed to survive politically and a counter offensive was announced to liberate both #Khartum and #AlJazirah. Formerly neutral rebel groups from #Darfur (#SLM-MM, #JEM, #GSLEF), now allied to the SAF, gathered and trained in Eastern #Sudan and #Eritrea, while also joining an SAF offensive in Khartum's twin-city Omdurman that managed to break the deadlock on this side of the capital. Their advance is grinding and slow, and the RSF step back but remain.
