Most of the former rebel groups making up the #DJPF have now sided with the #SAF and unveiled a plan 2 weeks ago to retake cities from the #RSF. Some of them have trained in the east and in #Eritrea participating in the counter-offensive aimed at Wad Madani. They also signed a new charter in Cairo 3 days ago, along with civilian forces, to support a SAF-led government and challenge the rival purely civilian #Taqaddum headed by former PM Abdallah Hamdok.

Among those, the most symbolic is probably El Fasher, the capital of North #Darfur, once controlled by the neutral Darfur Joint Protection Force (#DJPF), now besieged by the #RSF.

The announcement of the forming of a new joint force by the remaining neutral rebel forces has been met with skepticism and hostility by #SAF allies, who denounce a move favouring the #RSF. A further front between former #DJPF allies cannot be excluded at this time.

The immediate consequence has been to reignite tensions in and around El Fasher (North #Darfur), the last major city out of #RSF control throughout the region, which was held by a Darfur Joint Protection Force (#DJPF) of neutral rebels up to the alliance of #SLM-MM, #JEM and #GSLEF to the #SAF.
