Small hoodoos of the ?Petrified Forest Member of the Chinle Formation (~206 million years old) capped by fallen blocks of Wingate Sandstone (~200 million years old) in the Wolverine Petrified Forest, Grand-Staircase Escalante National Monument, Utah. The more durable sandstone blocks protect the underlying shales & mudstones from weathering as fast as in the uncovered areas, creating the pedestals under the blocks. #geology #geoscience #utah #GSENM #triassic #jurassic #naturalhistory
