Ethics review finds probable cause that Rep. Troy Nehls misused campaign funds
The independent office that reviews allegations against House members has found probable cause that Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas converted campaign funds to personal use. The finding and a 6-0 recommendation to investigate further was contained in a new disclosure revealed Friday to meet public disclosure requirements. However, leaders of the committee charged with carrying out the investigation emphasized that the disclosure does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, and the investigation is ongoing. Nehls, a Republican, was a county sheriff before serving in the House. He’s a staunch Donald Trump supporter who attended this year’s State of the Union address wearing a T-shirt decorated with Trump’s mugshot.

U.S. Senator JD Vance opposes Ukraine aid at Munich Security Conference
A Republican opponent of new U.S. funding for Ukraine has argued at an international security conference that the package stuck in Congress wouldn’t “fundamentally change the reality” on the ground and that Russia has an incentive to negotiate peace. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and others have advocated passage of the $60 billion in aid at the Munich Security Conference. But Sen. JD Vance, an Ohio Republican, said Sunday “the problem in Ukraine … is that there’s no clear end point” and that the U.S. doesn’t make enough weapons to support wars in eastern Europe, the Middle East and “potentially a contingency in East Asia.”
