Blog - Furnace XX (2025) After Action Report

TL;DR: Last weekend was Furnace, a #ttrpg convention that I help to organise in Sheffield each year. It was our twentieth year and the con was bigger and better than ever. Almost a hundred people playing over 59 different game systems over 5 slots and two days... this entry is my notes on organising, preparing and running the con.

Furnace XX (2025) After Action Report

Last weekend saw me back at Sheffield for Furnace's twentieth anniversary, something that my co-conspirators Elaine and Graham had tried to...

Further to feedback at #FurnaceCon I'm putting together a short guide document for GMing at our #ttrpg conventions. 3-4 hour slots, 4-6 players.

Conscious of some great existing resources which I will link to, but feel free to reply with pithy nuggets of wisdom or links!

After action report from an excellent weekend of gaming at #FurnaceCon - cheers to Dom, Elaine and Graham!

Furnace XX

Furnace has now been running annually at the Garrison Hotel in Sheffield for an impressive twenty years, and this was was bigger and better ...

We've just had #FurnaceCon XX over the weekend in #Sheffield UK. It was packed with beautiful people and #ttrpgs.

We'll do a XXI, so come and join us. Here are a few quick thoughts.

Back from a great weekend at #FurnaceCon #RPGFurnace where we tried new things in how we ran the con for its 20th anniversary. I ran two games, played three, and had a great time. With this and #TravCon the previous weekend, I feel very lucky (and tired!) in my #ttrpg life. I will blog, once it’s sunk in. Great to see @satsuma, @satbunny and @eladrin amongst others!

Started to work my way through some Westerns as I’m intending to run the #talesoftheoldwest #ttrpg at #FurnaceCon in October.

Last night it was the more recent “The Thicket”. Tonight I’m going with “Pale Rider”. I’ve a bunch of Eastwoods to go through but what else should I look out for?

One of my co-organisers for #FurnaceCon has put together a compilation of seventeen of the last nineteen years of timetables of games offered. The first two years are lost before the digital ubiquity that smartphones brought.

I've had a nostalgia trip of all the #ttrpg scenarios that I've run at the con. There's 43 in the list, and the missing years would probably take it over 50.

17 years of gaming distilled down (the Furnace Timetable File)

One of my fellow convention organisers - our Tsarina of Games, Elaine - has compiled a master file of all the games that have run at the con...

@eladrin shared this elsewhere.

Furnace XX will be on the weekend of 11-12 October 2025.
Join us for our twentieth year, a celebration of friendship and our games! Book your accommodation at the Garrison now, and event registration will open next year.

Wonderful weekend at #FurnaceCon in Sheffield. Okay, I'm biased as I help to organise it with @eladrin but I had five fantastic #ttrpg sessions & met up with old friends.

Played #OldGodsOfAppalachia (set in Scotland) and run by @PaulBaldowski, facilitated #TheZoneRPG and later #Revolt. Sunday brought a game of @TheTweedmeister's #Liminal run by a fellow organiser & then I ran @pelgranepress's #DyingEarthRPG (in revivified form) where everyone was whimsical & bad. As I said, wonderful.
