Fun in the lab: Accidentally (?) painting funny little images with our atoms. I claimed it was a sheep on a rock, and the PhD student agreed and saved this slightly altered drawing to the lab book!
(This is an averaged image over a 2D array of single atoms that we detect with a high-resolution microscope)

I'd like to see him do the same thing with mercury so it becomes conveniently compact enough for anyone to reproduce and verify on their kitchen worktop.
