This was the Dylan and the Dead show in Oakland in July 1987. I was there, of course, with Bruce Fishbein, I think! And lots of my Bay Area Deadhead friends were there, too. Jerry mixes up the order of the second and third verses of “Friend of the Devil”. I can identify – I often start the third verse when I should start the second! And that messes up the story!

Speaking of that, in #FriendOfTheDevil the speaker indicates his apprehensive about encountering a certain sheriff because of the risk that he'll subsequently " spend my (his) life in jail". My legal question is, what crime results in imprisonment for life and also is in the jurisdiction of a sheriff?
I mean, pot, sure, especially if it was discovered on you "while black" but in this case I'm not sure that the speaker has a valid concern. What do you think?
