Here's my contribution to #52Ancestors Week 2 Origins. This was a fun research adventure when I found a branch of my French Lacrouts line in Spain. #genealogy #geneadons #FrenchGenealogy

52 Ancestors: A Branch Of My French Tree In Spain

A few years ago, I found a Casaux/Lacrouts family tree on MyHeritage which I believed was related to me. Unfortunately, the tree was private and I got no response to my PM.  I found a snippet of th…

@evamaes @MelRootsNWrites He signed "d ogeu" for "d'Ogeu" the town whose priest he was.
It is not rare to find those doodles. Some priests would caricature a person with whom they disagreed.

Things you find going through baptismal records. These drawings were in the middle of 1762, Ogeu les Bains, France. They are the only drawings in the record books that I've found. I wonder if they mean anything or the person was bored and doodling. #Genealogy #Geneadons #FrenchGenealogy

@MelRootsNWrites He is listed as missing on Sept 8, 1915 at La Harazée (Vienne-le-Château), with no official notice. Then it says that he was taken prisoner in Argonne (where the fighting was) and interned at the Vahn (Wahn) camp. I understand that in the heat of the fighting, he was taken prisoner, and the official authorities initially reported him missing before being officially informed.

Here's more information about this camp https://histoiresdepoilus.boitasite.com/camps/camp-wahn.php

This is the Monument Aux Morts in Ogeu les Bains, France. The J.B Lassalle listed is my grandfather's brother. He was taken as a prisoner of war in WWI and was a servant to a German officer in Belgium. When WWI ended, they were released and he had to walk home to Ogeu. He got sick just before reaching the French border and died. #genealogy #geneadons #FrenchGenealogy #WWI

#Genealogy #HappyDance Long shot, but I posted an unknown photo in my dad's photo album to a FB San Francisco history group. I hoped someone would recognize the couple and confirm my suspicions as to their identity.

Someone did recognized them. The couple is their grandparents. And, I was right. The photo is of my dad's godparents, Henri Jacquemet and Marie Segalas. Marie is my grandfather's cousin, so I found a new cousin, too.  #Geneadons #FrenchGenealogy

My French side was big on owning French laundries in the San Francisco Bay Area. Charles Mazeres was my great grandfather. Before he and my great grandmother became successful in the laundry business in Oakland, CA, they tried their hand in Modesto, CA. They were there about 3 years before throwing in the towel and moving to Oakland. This blurb from 1901 is about the only thing we have on their time in Modesto. #genealogy #geneadons #FrenchGenealogy
