After another successful week at @elixir_europe #BioHackathon, we've written up our vision for (and development towards) a federated microbiome analysis service: https://doi.org/10.37044/osf.io/3x274

We looked at the practicalities of using RO-Crates (👋 @soilandreyes ) to describe and transport microbiome-derived datasets between different pipelines on different infrastructures, with 3 very productive tracks of work.

Again Musk fails to show up to court. His lawyers have chosen an odd - to say the least -strategy to defend against the first count of the case against him. That count contends that the 1 million voter sweepstakes he has been running is an illegal lottery. Musk’s lawyers are saying that bc the winners have not been chosen at random, the operation isn’t a lottery. Problem for them: Musk and his PAC kept saying explicitly in tweets that winners would be chosen at random. https://www.inquirer.com/politics/larry-krasner-lawsuit-elon-musk-hearing-20241104.html 1/
Philly DA’s lawsuit against Elon Musk to get its day in court Monday

Whether the tech billionaire will show up is an open question — as is the fate of DA Larry Krasner’s lawsuit against Musk and his political action committee.

This is both amazing and hilarious. Ne’Kiya Jackson and Calcea Johnson have formalized a novel kind of proof considered impossible for at least two thousand years. The hard part? Dealing with LaTeX.

Two teenagers have once again proved an ancient math rule

Ne’Kiya Jackson and Calcea Johnson have published 10 trigonometric proofs of the Pythagorean theorem, a feat thought impossible for 2,000 years.

Honestly, if you’re in the US, please vote. Don’t let a fascist take control. Don’t think that it can’t possibly happen there. This might be your last chance to vote. Don’t waste it. Sitting it out won’t help your cause but it will definitely endanger a lot of lives. That’s my take on it.

🧵 CNN has banned far-right panelist Ryan Girdusky for a violently bigoted joke against progressive commentator Mehdi Hasan.

This was the right decision. But as a former TV booker, what happened is part of a much bigger problem.

The mainstream media is so obsessed with "balance" that it now is routinely platforming outright racists and bigots. This needs to end.
