I suspect I may be seeing some instances of #FakeProfile accounts #FakeAccount - I am trying to guess where I might find more info about it but the hashtags I'm guessing here, including #scam or #FediScam or #FediFake don't seem to be producing what I'm looking for, i.e. lists of fake profiles or commonly used bullshit bios that would help me identify who to block.
Any suggestions?
If you really think an account is a scam, you might want to report it or at least alert your mods!
Bardic suspended the [email protected] for phishing, perpetrating the "verify your account" scam we keep seeing. Hey @jippi we sent you a report; they've been spamming the scam this AM.
mastodon_support accounts are easier to spot on other (non-mastodon) instances, that may not be true for long (bad actors could start SharkeySupport accounts for example). The tech job placement companies that have 2 people pretend to do an interview, with 1 to pretending to talk on zoom & one to do the audio, what is their end goal?
Do they intend the unqualified person to work for 2-6 paychecks & get fired, or is it an overwork "scam" where one person is taking 2+ jobs? In the former case, it is pure scam, employer pays $ for nothing. In the 2nd case, employer gets an real employee, just with very divided attention.
