Twee boeken van Fang Fang: "Soft Burial", over de nasleep van de landonteigeningen in de jaren 1950, en "The Running Flame", over de uitzichtloze positie van vrouwen op het platteland. (Beide vert Michael Berry.) De boeken 'behandelen de trauma's van de geschiedenis, huiselijk geweld en de covid-pandemie, maar genderrelaties lopen door alledrie heen, want vrouwen krijgen ergere en specifieke pijn te verduren.'
