#TSMC to install cutting-edge #3nm chip tools in #Arizona next summer
TSMC will begin installation of equipment into its #Fab21 phase 2 in Arizona in the third calendar quarter — from July to September — of #2026, with the aim to start production at the facility in calendar 2027, several quarters ahead of the original schedule of 2028, if the report from Nikkei is accurate.

Construction of the company's N3-capable #Fab21 module 2 is complete, and the company is working to start installing equipment there ahead of time in a bid to pull in volume production of chips at the facility by at least a couple of quarters from its original vague schedule of 2028.

#TSMC's #Arizona #Fab21 mass produces 4nm chips at a higher price than Taiwan
The company emphasized that it is producing chips on one of its #N4 process and yields in Arizona are comparable to those in Taiwan. However, chips fabbed in the #US are more expensive. But customers are willing to pay extra, says TSMC.
Unverified reports suggest Fab 21 producing at least three types of processors: the A16 Bionic chip, Apple's S9, and a CPU from AMD's Ryzen 9000 series.

#TSMC's #Fab21 in #Arizona is gradually ramping up production, and recently it began to manufacture some of #AMD's #Ryzen 9000-series processors for client PCs as well as some ingredients of #Apple's S9 system-in-package (SiP) for smart watches and Apple's A16 Bionic system-on-chip for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus smartphones
All of the said processors are made using TSMC's #4nm-class #N4 and #N4P technologies.
