Finished up my Final Fantasy VII replay. It was fun, and there was so much I had forgotten.
And yes, I did use the built in assists to make my life easier, but I paid my dues 25 years ago when I played and finished the game with no assists and only a printed strategy guide book to help me along! I'm allowed to play in what is essentially story mode now. The main effect this had on this playthrough was allowing me to complete the final arc in about an hour and a half, rather than a week of playing sessions with the multitude of normally extended-length boss battles.
That said, "One-Winged Angel" still sounded glorious, and the final movie still had an impact that made the journey worth it. No pun intended.
Final Fantasy VII will always have a special place for me, since it was my first Final Fantasy game. I remember getting a VHS promo tape in the mail from SquareSoft way back at the time of the game's release, and all the buzz around it being the first 3D Final Fantasy. It may not be my favorite installment (that honor goes to FFVI, the pixel remaster of which is still in my backlog), but it's still quite memorable.
Maybe someday I'll play the FFVII Remake trilogy (or however many games they've split it into), because I am curious how much of the story stays as it is, and how it looks and plays with all of the updates to presentation and gameplay. But I don't even have a PS5 yet, so I'm in no hurry.
One thing I never realized the previous times I played Final Fantasy VII was that Weapon is basically a kaiju. I knew nothing of Tokusatsu at the time, so I had no idea how obvious it was.
On your marks, get set, go!

Finished Work!
Tifa - FInal Fantasy 7
In fact, it was that particular version of the battle theme from FF7 Remake that I spent time to create my own 1 hour long extended version so that I could listen to and let the stress and frustration from work melt away.
Back when I first played Final Fantasy VII and listened to the soundtrack, I was not a fan of the arrangements and instrumentation back then and it's only slightly grown on me over the years.
I think the Rebirth and Remake versions of the songs finally make things right for me.
