@Szwendacz The issue with #fc43 upgrade boiled down to the forced switch from X11 to Wayland, which was well announced. My expectation was that system configuration files would be handled. I expected that there would be bumps. But I didn't expect that a core functionality like login would become corrupted. I found the solution in #Fedora Discussion. Now I know that I am not the only one that has been tripped up during the upgrade. And I now have a new tool in my toolbelt.

No login screen after upgrade to f43 (Solved: authselect was never set up on a system upgraded through many versions)

I solved this myself but wanted to document the solution in case other users might have the same issues. All hints and feedback on how to best achieve this goal are appreciated. Issue The upgrade itself ran smooth but after boot there is just a blinking cursor, no login screen. Debugging steps (feel free to skip) Switch to a text console (Ctrl+Alt+F3), login as prompted. Check for failed services systemctl --failed Some user@[somenumber].service entries were listed systemctl status user@[s...

Fedora Discussion
I've spent an entire day (20 hours) searching for a magic command to bring the GDM login manager back to life after upgrading #fc42 to #fc43. I'm not a novice. It would be difficult to make the answer harder to find. But it only took 1 command. Stuff like this is why the public is not embracing #Linux. I seriously considered scratching the entire installation and starting over. This is the worst #Fedora upgrade that I can remember, worse than upgrades involving ZFS, Nvidia, and Tuxedo drivers.

That was quicker than expected but wouldn't reboot into Gnome.

Issue was in /etc/gdm/common.conf where Wayland was False. Seeing how X11 is no longer enabled gdm couldn't see a display! Wayland was made True and reboot successful.

Would have been useful to have known this first ... but only an hour wasted.
