Just a street next to a parking lot for the working waterfront, with a clear view of the open sky. There’s really not much here, but it’s my neighborhood. It’s home. I’m really going to miss this view when they put up luxury towers here in the next few years, but for now, I get cloudscapes and the sun. Happy Solstice.

A photo for the end of summer, and the end of an era.
Today, despite months of resistance from the community, a task force approved a massive luxury housing plan that will throw up towers to block this view, displace many local residents, and change the character of my neighborhood forever. I’ll continue to raise my voice against this — on top of everything else in the world we have to resist — but today I’m just so tired of fighting.

Every so often, massive cruise ships like the Queen Mary 2 will pull into the Brooklyn Marine Terminal and almost block out the Manhattan skyline. They’re floating cities unto themselves.
