So fitting that, as Hootie and The Blowfish comes on at the restaurant weโ€™re at tonight, I learn that the Trump administrationโ€™s proposed CDC cuts would gut HIV prevention efforts, resulting in a $700 million loss to the CDC and leaving millions scross the U.S. without access to lifesaving services.

Welcome back to 1993. Contact your congressional representatives, please. #endAIDS

Under- and late diagnosis of HIV is holding back progress to end AIDS in the European Region

Ahead of World AIDS Day on 1 December, a new report, โ€œHIV/AIDS surveillance in Europe 2024โ€, has been released today by WHO/Europe and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The report shows that since the beginning of the epidemic in the early 1980s, over 2.6 million people have been diagnosed with HIV in the WHO European Region, including more than 650 000 in the European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA). Despite significant progress made since then, nearly 1 in 3 people living with HIV in the Region still do not know their HIV status.

RT by @ECDC_EU: Ahead of #WorldAIDSDay, weโ€™ve launched the most recent HIV/AIDS surveillance report for Europe together with @ECDC_EU.

2.6 million people are currently diagnosed with #HIV in the WHO European Region.

It shows that underdiagnosis and late diagnosis remain the main challenges in our efforts to reduce HIV/AIDS.

Only 70% of all people living with HIV in Europe and Central Asia are aware of their status.

The biggest remaining hurdles in our region are restrictive and intolerant environments and even criminalization of HIV transmission โ€“ compounding stubborn stigma and discrimination โ€“ as well as inconsistent uptake of evidence-based interventions.

We must

๐Ÿ”นincrease funding for HIV prevention
๐Ÿ”นcreate safe spaces for people to access services
๐Ÿ”นnormalize testing
๐Ÿ”นensure that policies are compassionate - not punitive.
