My talk from Electromagnetic Field 2024 is now available to watch on YouTube.

This was a shorter version of a talk I gave as the closing keynote at QCon London1. It covers the work we’re doing with pen plotters at Forge & Craft, as well as telling the story of my exploration of the history of computer art – and pioneering plotter artists such as Nake, Nees, Molnár and Cohen, as well as modern makers and artists – over the course of the past 18 months.

There was a bit of a technical issue midway through (edited out of the video, although you will hear the applause when the system recovered!) so the latter part is a bit more sped up and raced through than I intended – hopefully I’ll have an opportunity to do a “complete” version of this talk at some point. A big thank you to the EMF video team for making the talk watchable; I’m sure there was a lot of clever editing required! 👏🏻

    Presentation of the electromagnetic field in introductory physics textbooks and consequences for its teaching

    Textbooks play a fundamental role in teaching and learning in school science classrooms. In this paper we investigate the presentation of the nature of the electromagnetic field in a dozen of the world's most popular introductory university physics textbooks. We analyse, from an epistemologically based teaching approach, the didactic treatment of the electromagnetic field in relation to its sources, Maxwell's laws and electromagnetic waves. With this objective, we elaborate a rational reconstruction of the developments that led to the formulation of the nature of the electromagnetic field, Maxwell's laws and their meaning, as well as electromagnetic waves. Next, we formulate criteria based on the key aspects derived from the reconstruction that are useful in the evaluation of electromagnetism textbooks at the introductory level and apply them to the sample of selected books. In light of the results, we reflect on their consequences for teaching. Our analysis indicates the existence of certain inconsistencies in the approach to the electromagnetic field and its relationship with its sources, Maxwell's laws and electromagnetic waves in many of the books analysed.

His major research themes have included #electromagneticfield effects upon biological organisms, epilepsy, temporal lobe functions, properties of biophotons, geophysical-human interactions, physical cosmology, and the quantifiable examination of what Persinger terms "low-probability phenomena" such as #time travel, #paralleluniverses, and the universe as a simulation.
    ****  The God Helmet was not specifically designed to elicit visions of God,[1] but to test several of Persinger's hypotheses about brain function. The first of these is the Vectorial Hemisphericity Hypothesis, which proposes that the human sense of self has two components, one on each side of the brain, that ordinarily work together but in which the left hemisphere is usually dominant. Persinger argues that the two hemispheres make different contributions to a single sense of self, but under certain conditions can appear as two separate 'selves'. Persinger and Koren designed the God Helmet in an attempt to create conditions in which contributions to the sense of self from both cerebral hemispheres is disrupted.

    Everything in this universe runs on a single #substrate, #physics. And of that it's in practice just #ElectromagneticField and #electrons.

    There are no separate substrates for machine and biological minds, it's all just electrons.

    The whole idea is just redressed #dualism.
