Garlic cress (Peltaria alliacea) is like a more refined version of its sister species Garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata). It is also reliably perennial and -which is rare for Brassicacea plant - spreads through rhizomes. I think it's a winner. Surprisingly, you almost can't find it on the market. And the few that sell it basically sell the same clone - so it won't set seed. After some years of working on this I finally did it and now have plants that set seed. Very happy about this! #PeltariaAlliacea #Seed #Domestication #PlantExplorer #Perennials #Edimentals

Common Drone Fly (Eristalis tenax) on Daffodil Garlic (Allium neapolitanum). This is in the south facing bed by the track at the front of the house, backed by a 3m high wall.

Seriously, this edible onion has been an absolute star in the garden, a mass of star shaped white flowers in late summer

Allium neapolitanum Daffodil Garlic, White garlic PFAF Plant Database

Allium neapolitanum is a BULB growing to 0.3 m (1ft) by 0.1 m (0ft 4in). See above for USDA hardiness. It is hardy to UK zone 8 and is not frost tender. It is in leaf from October to July, in flower from March to May, and the seeds ripen from May to June. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Bees, insects. Suitable for: light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers dry or moist soil.

I'm looking after a client's Welsh Onions (Allium fistulosum). They are neither Welsh nor onions, being more like chives. In the same way Chinese Cedar (Toons sinensis) is neither Chinese nor a cedar.

Scarlet Hawthorn (Crataegus ellwangeriana) in blossom. Apple-ish haws, both are members of the rose family.

Mashua (Tropaleum tuberosum) growing on the compost heap *in December*. Frost sensitive leaves, related to Nasturtium. Edible tubers but haven't figured out how to make them acceptably edible in the kitchen! Beautiful flowers and foliage.
