By introducing the #EcologicalValueAdded, the state would show that it is seriously willing to change the current economic system toward #sustainability. For the introduction of an EVA, you only need the understanding and will of the #government. It would have to determine the rules. Everything else is controlled by the dynamics of the #market.
A transparent #EcologicalValueAdded would thus enable purchasing decisions that are not based solely on price and quality. Companies would consciously purchase it from their #suppliers in order to consciously sell it to #consumers at the end of the value chain, preferably at a profit. It would thus gradually change our society and create space for #nature in the #economy.
#EcologicalValueAdded: Once set in motion, the matter would develop its own dynamic. A competitor of the jeans manufacturer who invests two percent of their costs in a project to support #biodynamic agriculture might decide to use 2.5 percent for the #reforestation. Another manufacturer might be persuaded to donate five percent to an #NGO. And we, as consumers, would then have the choice.
Nature conservation must become part of the economic system.
If a buyer were to choose a product with a very small #EcologicalValueAdded, it would be a #morally relevant decision, and moral decisions are not easily avoided. He would have to decide between doing something to save the #rainforests and buying his son an additional gadget. Or he would simply turn a blind eye – also a moral decision.
#EcologicalValueAdded: #Companies would be free to decide how high the environmental surcharge on their #products should be. They would only be obliged to clearly indicate this on the packaging and also to state the amount and purpose in sufficiently large print.
This would give #buyers an additional product characteristic that they could take into account when making their #purchase decision. Our purchasing decisions can destroy #nature or halt its destruction. EVA would make this visible.
There is a simple way to make #sustainability and #nature conservation part of the #economy.
If the price of each product included an additional #EcologicalValueAdded, #ecological projects would be part of the business. This additional component of the price would be the amount that the manufacturer would have spent on a socially desirable ecological purpose.
It would consist of the Ecological „VAT“ of its suppliers and the one that it would have set for itself in addition to this.
