The European Sovereign Tech Fund #EUSTF pilot is a key step toward coordinated European investment in critical open digital infrastructure. We're glad to see this take shape within the #DCEDIC -- and to be leading the pilot.

@osi The shift toward an EU Sovereign Tech Fund is a massive strategic move. But if this model shapes 'open source practice worldwide,' how do we ensure it doesn't just become a state-sponsored 'wrapper' for corporate infrastructure?

Can the EU-STF model provide actual Metabolic Insulation for the fundamental code—ensuring that the core developers are funded directly as a commons, rather than just as a 'resilience asset' for industrial users? #DigitalSovereignty #OpenSource #EUSTF

@ainali There is some info about EDIC format in the #EUSTF report https://eu-stf.openforumeurope.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/EU-STF-Feasibility-Study_final.pdf

Yesterday a person involved in the EDIC-DC explained to me how it's supposed to work. Apparently it's a supranational entity established by treaty; it is somewhat distinct from the incorporated entity of the same name [which is only some sort of secretariat for it?]. Not clear whether French legislation on nonprofits, taxation, procurement applies.

Maybe @senficon or others https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/KES3TH-funding_europes_open_digital_infrastructure_a_detailed_case_for_an_eu_sovereign_/ know.

Ziele des EU-STF

- Erfolg der Sovereign Tech Agency skalieren
- Politische Ziele der EU unterstützen
- Öffentliche und private Mittel bündeln
- Software-Abhängigkeiten identifizieren
- Open-Source-Ökosystem stärken

Can't help it, but I do find it a bit ironic that European sovereign fund report is funded by monopolistic american tech giant Microsoft.

#EUSTF

I kick off the morning reviewing this document: "#EUSTF: A Study on the Economic, Legal, and Political Feasibility of an EU Sovereign Tech Fund"

A 42,000 words proposal to create a EU-wide version of the German Sovereign Tech Fund/Agency with a 350 million € fund over seven years. To fund critical open source infrastructure.

It even features the now mandatory xkcd 2347 image. https://xkcd.com/2347/

Color me positive.
