KiCad ist eine Elektronik-Design-Automatisierungssoftware (EDA), oder auf Deutsch, ein Programm um Schaltpläne zu zeichnen und daraus Platinen Layouts zu entwickeln. KiCad ist Open Source und steht unter der GPL. Die Software wird von einer Gruppe engagierter Freiwilliger und zwei Wissenschaftlern des CERN entwickelt. Leider steht die aktuellen Nightly Releases nicht für Arch Linux zur Verfügung. Aber dank des AUR (Archlinux User Repository) kann man problemlos den aktuellen 2. Release Kandidat der kommenden Version 8.0 installiert werden.
