When and why was it that human beings developed the urge to tap creatures, both fellow humans but also non-humans, on the nose? The tendency, now formally defined as a ‘boop’, seems nearly as ubiquitous as the most-commonly-seen in males-but-I’m-told-is-present-in-all-genders-to-some-degree desire to jump up and tap a door jamb (no verb extant at this time).
