Still playing around with my Schmincke Super-granulating colors.
Did you know that the Moon is moving away from our planet about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) every year? As it moves away the length of our days gets longer. One 2.45 billion years ago, or so, the length of the day was only 16.9 hours.

Day 8: Mistletoe

This is a line and wash sketch of the wire leaved mistletoe "Amyema pressii" which grows on acacias. A mistletoe native to Australia which has fascinating and beautiful flowers.
Mistletoe has a very important place in a healthy ecosystem. It provides shelter and food for a wide range of species including birds, butterflies and other insects.

Day 6: Mouse for #DoodleWashDecember2022 and #ArtAdventCalendar
This is a spinifex hopping mouse from central Australia. It generally lives in tunnels about a metre underground. They have really amazing kidneys that save nearly all the moisture so their urine is solid.
Painted in a concertina watercolour journal that I made myself. The paper is 300gsm hot press, 100% cotton by Boahong.

Day 2: Birch Trees

Day 2 of #DoodleWashDecember2022 and #ArtAdventCalendar.

This time an oil pastel painting of birch trees at sunset. Another theme for those in the northern hemisphere.

I have mixed feelings about participating in holiday-themed activities that are created by those in the Northern hemisphere. On one hand, I like to join in and create art as part of a global community, but find it somewhat frustrating that often I feel excluded by the prompts. They often reference plants and animals endemic to the northern hemisphere and have a heavy winter focus.

As an Australian, Christmas is a summer holiday. Yes, I could make a list that focuses on Australian themes, but I want to join in with the wider global community.

I think I have decided that I will still follow the list, but where the list has a winter focus, I'll switch it to a summer theme, and for plants and animals, I'll find a similar Australian or southern hemisphere alternative. I'll still use the original prompt to tag but add my own spin.
