I borrowed a 1944 Kay M-1 from a very generous friend to get me through the next month of gigs while my King is in the shop. I’ve played a lot of Kays, but never through my usual rig with with the same pickup. I didn’t realize how much of a difference a rosewood fingerboard makes to your slap tone (my King has an ebony fingerboard). Ebony ticks. Rosewood clacks. It makes a much bigger difference than strings do. I’m definitely making room for a Kay.
