I would have thought that by now manufacturers would have decided they had seen enough of their products not being up to the job in this type of racing. This design is unfortunately very pervasive. It is very hard, if not impossible, to find quality shoes without BOA.
I donβt know, but suspect that having spare shoes in the pit is a relatively new development.

My favourite was this clever design choice to avoid people standing still on the bridge across the highway and train, a dangerous choke point. You would need a lot of stewards for such crowd control, but if you hide the race from view, the space becomes a dead zone!
