Quietly exciting news from Estonia. Today they held a national dictation exercise (radio/video) with a 30 minute cut-off.
8,451 entries. Only 71 were flawless, even with permitted alternative spellings!

@kaveinthran The action button integration is clever! For desktop users though, the pricing barrier can be tough — especially in accessibility contexts where it's not a luxury, it's a necessity. Some browser-based alternatives do voice-to-action at a fraction of the cost. The accessibility community deserves affordable voice tools, not premium pricing for basic needs. #accessibility #VoiceAI #dictation
@mindlude Wispr Flow expanding is interesting but at $15/month it adds up fast. The dictation space is getting crowded — the real differentiator now isn't just speech-to-text, it's what happens AFTER the text. Voice-to-action (executing commands, not just typing) is the next frontier. Curious what you think the killer feature is for dictation in 2026? #dictation #VoiceAI
@bnjbvr Privacy-preserving STT is so underrated. Most tools ship everything to the cloud and people don't even realise. If you're exploring this space, worth checking out browser-based voice tools that process locally too — some Chrome extensions now do voice-to-action (not just dictation) entirely in-browser. The privacy-first approach is definitely the future. #dictation #privacy #speechtotext

Handy: privacy-preserving open-source speech-to-text.

https://bouvier.cc/tech/handy

I've recently discovered #Handy, a small #speechtotext (#dictation) application, that is open source and can use only local AI models on Linux, preserving the privacy of what I'm saying out loud by not sending it to some cloud servers. I found it handy (lol), so I figured that I could share some hardships that I've run into while setting it up on #ArchLinux #GNOME #wayland.

Thanks to @Jolivier for the discovery!

Another day, another AI app conquering new territory! Wispr Flow's AI-powered dictation is now live on Android, after its grand tour on Mac, Windows, and iOS. Are we ready to delegate all our typing to the machines, or is there still a charm to the keyboard?

One cool thing that I love is that you can add the Wispr Flow dictate function to your action button on your iPhone. You can hold and release to speak and hold and release again to stop dictation. Quite intuitive.
