LXQt 2.4.0 released

LXQt, the desktop environment which is effectively to KDE what Xfce is to GNOME, has released version 2.4.0. Quite a few changes in this release are further refinements and fixes related to LXQt's adoption of Wayland, but there are also a ton of small fixes, improvements, and small new features that have nothing to do with Wayland at all. There are also a few layout cleanups to make s

Fixing a 20-year-old bug in Enlightenment E16

The editor in chief of this blog was born in 2004. She uses the 1997 window manager, Enlightenment E16, daily. In this article, I describe the process of fixing a show-stopping, rare bug that dates back to 2006 in the codebase. Surprisingly, the issue has roots in a faulty implementation of Newton’s algorithm.

Not to set off a flame war or something but I keep going back between GNOME and KDE. I am I am constantly intrigued by KDE plasma--it seems a lot more tweakable than GNOME--but a lot of my preferences are closer to the GNOME defaults. Maybe I should look into ways to make current KDE Plasma behave a bit more like GNOME, while taking advantage of its tweakability? I dunno. #DesktopLinux #Linux #KDE #GNOME #DesktopEnvironments
My new #Cosmic desktop environment is making me work in a slightly different way to my norm. More workspace usage in particular. And you know what? It works well and I'm really enjoying it.

Yes there are one or two very minor niggles. I have had to go back to keyboard print screen as the Screenshot app that came with Cosmic isn't working for some reason. As I say, minor stuff. Overall very pleased with Cosmic.

I don't distro hop much these days. For the last 6 years or so I've been on @pop_os_official with it's Gnome DE. Its a system I'm comfortable with. Today I successfully upgraded to @system76 new release, 24.04 LTS with a Cosmic DE. This was a painless upgrade for me.

Have to say, its a very clean and fresh looking desktop environment. I like it. Nowhere near the amount of customization that KDE has, but at first glance its going to suit me well. I prefer things familiar and simple. Thanks to the developers.
