Looks like someone at KDE is keeping the hope alive for those 3D desktop effects. Remember them? Remember when it seemed like every Linux user was just rotating their cubic desktops, shaking, squeezing and stretching their windows like they were rubber? Yeah, those were weird times.

KDE6 stands for #KeepDesktopEffects6oing, “6” is an upside-down “g”.

I show how Linux's KDE Compositor, that is already included with the OS, can be used to show such effects as screen magnification, screen drawing, mouse cursor tracking and clicking, without the need for additional 3rd party software when creating screencast recordings. This is useful if your screencasting recorder does not include these features, but of course many of these desktop effects just look really cool anyway!

Enable This Cool 3D Cube Desktop Effect on Ubuntu 21.10

Is this a blog or time machine? I ask because I’m we’re launching headfirst into 2009 and the era of showy, superfluous Linux desktop effects. We’ve seen wobbly windows, magic lamp effects, and beautifully blurred backgrounds all ported to GNOME extension. Now comes the showpiece: the rotating 3D cube desktop. Popularised by Compiz (and implemented into other window managers), the 3D cube desktop made workspace switching a blingy affair. Each dedicated workspace was moulded into a spinning cube, with each workspace a ‘facet’. In addition, the effect made application windows “float” off of the workspace in a a separate layer

OMG! Ubuntu!
I wrote a guide how to install and setup Compiz 0.9 and Compiz Reloaded (0.8) on Ubuntu MATE 19.10:

Luckily both version is easy to install, but it's important that you cannot have both installed at the same time.

There are certain plugins you need to enable to work, but if something goes wrong with it, just use MATE Tweak to switch back to Marco.
