The Sanctuary ⛪ for #spookysaturday

As you open the heavy wooden doors you see incense smoke curl and spiral around the empty pews.
Behind the altar, the wooden statue of Christ begins to weep real blood, his face contorted in agony.
As you walk towards the altar, reaching out to touch it, your legs buckle and crack beneath you as the bones break.
You hear the sound of the heavy oak doors slam shut, locking without a key.
Silence.
Then suddenly, coming from the organ pipes, a droning, rhythmic hum emerges.
Shadows slither out from beneath the pulpit.
"Welcome" they rasp. "We have been waiting for a new vessel".

This is the Basilica di San Francesco and is not actually creepy in real life 😂. Actually, it was a very lovely and sunny day when I took the unedited picture! ✨ (Still haven't figured out how to make good fog though, but we'll get there)

The only part of the image that isn't mine is the astronaut. Because well, I don't know any astronauts. The stars were taken from my living room window in Italy and the rocks are from outside Dad's house in Ireland. All editing was done while swearing profusely. ✨

The Spectre Returns 👻 for #spookysaturday

A recreation and homage to "The Spectre of Newby Church". It was one of the first famous "ghost photos" that actually scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.
This spectre is not in Newby though, this one is in La Cripta di San Zama in Bologna. It's an ancient 11th- century, three-nave, Romanesque structure made from repurposed Roman materials, including a 3rd-century floor! ✨
