Back to my year-long project of piecing together a Rosetta Stone puzzle. Hieroglyphic part (not on the photo) was approached as a typical puzzle, but the Greek part was a lot more fun. I loaded the actual text Greek text on my laptop and then would search it for matches from the puzzle pieces. The remaining Demotic script, seen above the Greek one, will be a nightmare 😅

I took part in an excellent study day today - "A Taste of Demotic" with Dr. Luigi Prada and the Bloomsbury Study School.

It was great to get an introduction to demotic; its history, the basic signs, the tools available for study, and the often multi-lingual context it was used in.

I'm not about to start reading demotic texts, but at least now I'll recognise them when I see them in museums, and who knows - maybe even pick out a king's name or two.
