Nr. 8 #demoguide
If you come alone - search for a group of people you are ok with. So you might find someone to talk or just to follow. Maybe you'll have some nice talks.

If you arrive by car: rather place it further away. The easier you get home when it is very crowded or the police occupies the way.

If you are not in good health or/and not fit to walk: perfect If you attend protest anyway, but plan exits. If you cannot go on: can you walk half way? Can you get rest somehwere? Take a towel with you, so you can rest on the ground (Hitch hikers guide by Douglas Adams was there for a reason).

Get information in advance: who organizes, what is the motto, what are the rules, do you have a long way to walk?

It makes senses to get to a protest or demonstration in a group. Perhaps meetup in a coffee bar and get some drinks and food to make you fit for the day. In a group you can help each other when things get difficult or one has a problem.

If your are protesting, a shop to get something to drink may be far away/on the other side of the crowd - and not prepared for providing beverages for a huge crowd. So some bottled water (or your favourite softdrink) is a gamechanger.

Clothes: Layers rule! (in german you call it onion style - when you can get off your jacket and your pullover and have a tshirt underneath). If you stand around for a while or just walk slow, temperatures can get nasty.
A little backpack can take your jacket: hands free for your signpost
Put on your comfortable shoes, not the shiny new ones. Cap or/and sunscreen to protect your face.

And: WATER!

Any flag or badge or colourful clothes that send a message (rainbow ...) is good. No political organisations flags or banners though. Make your point, not promotion.
No. 2 #demoguide #UnplugTrump
Letters on a sign: make it large. Make the letters fat. The better you can read it from afar. If you cannot provide big: any sign is better than nothing.
Since many American people are nowadays on the streets the first time - here some clues for #demonstration
(not all ideas may apply for US but nevertheless, take what you can use:

No. 1
Make yourself a sign. No matter what. A sad mass of people could be anything on a photo. People with signs send a message. It does not have to be perfect or with the best words on it.

#Demoguide
