È stato rintracciato e arrestato nel primo pomeriggio di oggi Elia Del Grande, l’uomo già noto per la strage di Cadrezzate e da giorni irreperibile dopo essersi allontanato dalla casa lavoro di Alba, nel Cuneese. L’operazione è stata condotta dai Carabinieri della Compagnia di Gallarate intorno alle 13.30 a Varano Borghi, in provincia di Varese. Del Grande non aveva fatto rientro nella struttura detentiva dalla giornata di Pasqua, facendo perdere le proprie tracce. Non si tratta del primo episodio: già lo scorso novembre si era reso irreperibile dalla casa-lavoro di Castelfranco Emilia, nel Modenese.

Al momento del fermo, l’uomo si trovava alla guida di una Fiat 500 risultata rubata nei giorni precedenti vicino al cimitero della frazione Lentate di Sesto Calende. Le pattuglie dell’Arma hanno intercettato il veicolo lungo la strada provinciale 18. Alla vista dei militari, Del Grande ha tentato di sottrarsi al controllo, fermandosi improvvisamente lungo l’accesso a un’abitazione privata. Il comportamento sospetto ha però insospettito i Carabinieri, che sono intervenuti immediatamente bloccando l’auto.
Durante le fasi concitate dell’arresto, uno dei militari si è avvicinato al lato guida intimando all’uomo di scendere e cercando di sottrarre le chiavi dal quadro. Del Grande ha tentato un’ultima manovra per guadagnare la fuga, ma è stato rapidamente immobilizzato. Nell’azione, un carabiniere ha riportato lievi lesioni. L’uomo è stato arrestato con le accuse di resistenza a pubblico ufficiale e lesioni personali. Nelle prossime ore sarà trasferito nel carcere di Varese, dove resterà a disposizione dell’Autorità giudiziaria.

Upon seeing the soldiers, Del Grande attempted to evade control, suddenly stopping near the entrance to a private residence. However, the suspicious behavior aroused the suspicion of the Carabinieri, who immediately intervened, blocking the car.

During the hectic arrest, one of the soldiers approached the driver’s side, ordering the man to get out and attempting to seize the keys from the ignition. Del Grande attempted one last maneuver to escape, but was quickly immobilized. In the action, a Carabinieri officer sustained minor injuries. The man was arrested on charges of resisting a public official and causing personal injury. He will be transferred to the Varese prison in the coming hours, where he will be at the disposal of the judicial authority.

L'Unità: Elia Del Grande in fuga, il killer della “strage dei fornai” scappato da una “casa lavoro”: è la seconda volta in 6 mesi

In fuga, per la seconda volta in cinque mesi. Elia Del Grande, l’uomo condannato per aver ucciso nel 1998 la sua famiglia, i genitori e il fratello, quando di anni ne aveva 22, è nuovamente scappato da una “casa lavoro” ad Alba, in provincia di Cuneo.
Del Grande, oggi 50enne, nel gennaio del 1998 uccise il padre Enea, la madre Alida e il fratello Enrico: fu quella che i giornali chiamarono “strage dei fornai”, perché i Del Grande erano proprietari di un panificio a Cadrezzate, in provincia di Varese. Elia fu condannato all’ergastolo in primo grado, poi la Corte d’Appello gli riconobbe la seminfermità mentale e ridusse la pena a 30 anni.
Dopo oltre 26 anni trascorsi in carcere, per Del Grande lo scorso settembre 2025 il Tribunale di sorveglianza decise di sottoporlo ad una misura di sicurezza ordinando per lui che restasse sei mesi in una “casa lavoro” a Castelfranco Emilia, una struttura che ha come compito la rieducazione e il reinserimento delle persone nella società, ospitando persone sottoposte a misure di sicurezza perché ritenute socialmente pericolose.
Il 30 ottobre Del Grande scappò scavalcò il muro della struttura con una fune ricavata mettendo insieme dei fili elettrici: venne individuato solamente il 12 novembre. Come emerso dalle indagini, Del Grande in quel periodo si mosse e nascose tra i boschi nella zona di Cadrezzate.

In una lettera inviata al quotidiano locale Varesenews aveva spiegato le sue ragioni: il 50enne aveva scritto di essere scappato perché l’istituto era inadeguato e somigliava più ad un centro di detenzione per soggetti con patologie psichiatriche che ad un centro di “reinserimento”.
Per Del Grande vennero disposti altri sei mesi in una “casa lavoro”, questa volta ad Alba, in attesa che il magistrato di sorveglianza valutasse la sua pericolosità sociale anche alla luce della fuga del novembre scorso.
Del Grande è dunque scappato nuovamente domenica, quando grazie ad un permesso per Pasqua era uscito dalla struttura di Alba. Sarebbe dovuto rientrare nel pomeriggio di domenica, ma non si è più presentato.
La sua fuga dalla struttura di Castelfranco Emilia e di Alba non è equiparabile all’evasione da un carcere, perché tecnicamente una persona sottoposta a una misura di sicurezza non è come una persona detenuta.

On the run again, for the second time in five months. Elia Del Grande, the man convicted of murdering his family – his parents and brother – in 1998 when he was 22, has once again escaped from a “workhouse” in Alba, in the province of Cuneo.

Del Grande, now 50 years old, killed his father Enea, his mother Alida, and his brother Enrico in January 1998: it was dubbed the “baker’s massacre” by the newspapers, because the Del Grande family owned a bakery in Cadrezzate, in the province of Varese. Del Grande was initially sentenced to life imprisonment, then the Court of Appeal recognized his diminished mental capacity and reduced the sentence to 30 years.

After more than 26 years spent in prison, last September 2025, the Surveillance Court decided to place Del Grande under a security measure, ordering him to remain for six months in a “workhouse” in Castelfranco Emilia, a facility whose purpose is the rehabilitation and reintegration of people into society, housing people subject to security measures deemed socially dangerous.

On October 30th, Del Grande escaped, climbing over the wall of the facility with a rope made from electric wires; he was located only on November 12th. As emerged from the investigations, Del Grande moved and hid in the woods in the Cadrezzate area during that period.

In a letter sent to the local newspaper Varesenews, he explained his reasons: the 50-year-old wrote that he had escaped because the institution was inadequate and resembled more a detention center for individuals with psychiatric disorders than a “reintegration” center.

Another six months in a “workhouse” were ordered for Del Grande, this time in Alba, while the surveillance magistrate evaluated his social danger in light of the November escape.

Del Grande has therefore run again on Sunday, when, thanks to a permission granted for Easter, he had exited the Alba facility. He was due to return in the afternoon of Sunday, but he never showed up.

His escape from the Castelfranco Emilia and Alba facilities is not comparable to an escape from prison, because technically a person subject to a security measure is not like a person in prison.

Particolare attenzione è rivolta a Cadrezzate, il comune del Varesotto dove Del Grande è nato e cresciuto, e dove il 7 gennaio 1998 ha compiuto un triplice omicidio: uccise il padre, la madre e il fratello, opponendosi al matrimonio con la giovane dominicana di cui era innamorato.
La fuga non è la prima della sua vita: lo scorso 30 ottobre Del Grande era già scappato da una casa lavoro nel modenese. Le autorità invitano la popolazione a fornire ogni possibile informazione utile alle ricerche, soprattutto nelle zone a lui più familiari.
